One App to Park Them All - Merging Two Products For A Better UX

One App to Park Them All - Merging Two Products For A Better UX

At Wemolo, we initially developed two separate parking-related products that shared core functionalities but differed in the use cases they targeted. While one was focusing on short-term post-payment for parking, the other one was targeted at prepaid long-term reservations. Over time, both products were increasingly offered on the same parking lots, leading to user confusion about which app to use. Additionally adaption of the webapp for short-term parking was very slow. Leadership took the decision to merge the two products to facilitate growth and reduce dependency on costly hardware terminals. My goal was to implement a merged V1 with improved UX of key user flows. I was in charge of leading the project as well as the entire design process.

My responsibilities

My responsibilities

  • Shaped the product vision & design strategy by conducting user research, analysing market trends and collaborating with stakeholders, PMs and engineers.

  • I led the design and delivery process - initial discovery, ideation, prototyping, user testing, and iteration following a Double Diamond framework.

  • Conducted stakeholder interviews, shadowing, and quantitative analysis to uncover friction points—e.g., checkout taking up to 5 minutes, 60% drop-off rate during payment selection, and typing-related frustration.

  • Ran A/B-style in-person usability tests comparing the current signage-based URL system versus a unified Figma prototype with a product-selection entry screen

  • Designed a superior checkout flow by standardizing CTAs, enabling license-plate and payment storage via user accounts, and adding a parking history view with invoice downloads.

  1. As 95% of our traffic comes from mobile devices, I decided to focus solely on mobile and forgo on developing dedicated larger screens. Thereby we reduced design and development times by 20%.

  1. After the project, a new driver team was formed by merging previously separate product teams. This established a foundation for streamlined communication, aligned roadmap planning and unified goal setting.

  1. Introducing user accounts with stored payment methods and license plates not only had impact on the UX but also lay the groundwork for subsequent features that allow for more workflow automation and a smoother driver experience.
